I'm running CMOD 9.5.0.5 with DB2 10.5 on AIX 7.1 with TSM 7.1 and need to stand up a development environment for testing.
Has anyone ever tried cloning an environment including servers and application and then just renaming and repointing everything?
Just wondered if this was possible in lieu of installing and configuring everything from scratch.
It doesn't hurt to get the skills necessary to install & configure all this software. But yes, I imagine it could take a week if you're not familiar with configuring any of the components.
Your AIX system administrators should be able to duplicate an LPAR for you, making a complete copy of the existing system -- but be careful, as your configuration files might have hostnames in them that cause it to connect to the production system (the TSM Client config, and TSM SAN device config for tape drives especially). The snag here is that if you duplicate TSM, you need to have the same storage/devices set up as well -- which can be a problem if you have an expensive tape library connected.

Appreciate you JD and I think your first statement is the best of the reply - could use the practice and that's likely how I'll roll with this one :)
Good plan. ;)
Also, use a more recent TSM installer. The 7.1 installer was junk, and had tons of bugs. There should be a 7.1.1 or newer installer available.
