Title: Enhancement in OD 9.0
Post by: jeffs42885 on September 07, 2012, 01:53:59 PM
I was just reading through the enhancements for 9.0, and saw the following: Enhanced metadata update enabling the Windows client to update metadata fields.

Can someone elaborate on what this means? Does it mean that we can update indexes and such via thick client..remove indexes, etc...without having to do a command, if so, that would be awesome!

If I am completely wrong, please feel free to laugh at me!

Cheers!

Hello Jeff,

apparently yes, you can modify indexes, but I'm not sure you can remove indexes (except with the unload function in the System Log/Load folder... but that's not the "remove index" thing :-D)

Another thing which is nice, before in "arsdoc add", you needed to fill every field with the index you wanted to duplicate, and now "arsdoc add" is intelligent enough to take all the value from the original index and change only the index you want.

I need to test all of them :-) it's thrilling!!! but actually I don't find the time with all the migrations running with all my customers... at the same time...  :o

Sincerely yours,
Alessandro

I see the OnDemand 4Q12 newsletter has a section on "Updating Indexes from the OnDemand Windows Client"

http://ODUG.net/index.php?board=18.0 (http://odug.net/index.php?board=18.0)

Hello Ed,

that's a nice feature, and at the same time I have customer when they heard that you could that in the windows client, they don't want to upgrade to CMOD 9.0, since it could be a security risk.
A potential risk, even if you don't give the rights to the user... the possibility is still there!

:-) People wants something, and when they get it, they don't want it !! :-D

Sincerely yours,
Alessandro
