Upgrading full CMOD System

Here is what the customer would like:

8.5.0.8 - 9.5
TSM 5.5 -8.1
DB2 - 9.5 - 10.7

Has anyone ever did a simple upgrade like this. The customer is apparently just using the fat client for retrievals. This order should I go in first.

Unless there's a certain pre-req that has to be filled my own personal rule-of-thumb on upgrades is you start at the hardware and work your way up to the application.

In this case I'd do TSM first, then DB2, then CMOD.

As I said before, unless there's a pre-req where (a) has to go before (b) that you can't get around.

Hello jsamsung85,

TSM exists until version 7.1, so version 8.1 doesn't exists!
DB2 exists only until V10.5, so version 10.7 doesn't exists!

As a parenthesis...
That said, you can with only CMOD license only use the maximum version defined in the license. If you look at the software included with CMOD V9.5 you'll see WAS 8.5.5, TSM 7.1and DB2 10.5.
Meaning, until CMOD doesn't change it's licenses wording, you won't be able to use TSM 7.2 / 8, 9 or 10, when it is available, the same for DB2 10.7, 11 or 12.
Only when a new CMOD is out, the changes of version is possible.

The other way to have a higher version, until CMOD changes its license permission is to buy the license of the specific version you want.

Of course, you need to check that with your IBM contact person.

End of the parenthesis!!!

I would do
- either DB2 or TSM (no real preferences here)
- then the other (TSM or DB2)
- CMOD

And the kind of upgrade you want to do is "quite" standard :-)
Nothing special here!

The TSM upgrade is anything but simple.  I'm also not sure if you can go directly from TSM 5.5 to v7.1 directly.  I typically move to TSM 6.3.x, then leave the v71 upgrade for later.  One of the issues is that it's been recommended that once you export the TSM 5.5 database (as part of the migration), that you can't go back to it without restoring the database backup.  Basically, it means the roll-back could take in the order of hours, instead of just bringing the old version back up -- which makes testing particularly painful.

Everything else is very standard.

Hi Alessandro Perucchi,

currently we have the CMOD v7.1.2.8 environment with db2 v8.1 . can we directly migrate the v7.1.2.8 to CMOD v9.5. if not please tell the actual solution to migration.
