Report Wizard using PDF option now working

Hello,

I recently received a new work laptop running Windows 11.  My previous laptop had Windows 10.  On my old laptop I had CMOD10.5.0.2 and was running Adobe Acrobat Pro version 2025.001.20432.  On my new laptop, I have the same exact versions of both products.  But on new laptop the PDF wizard is not working.  For added info, I had Adobe installed first THEN the CMOD software.  After launching the wizard I receive no error and I verified the arspdf32.api file is in the Adobe Plugin folder.  What initially happened was when trying to highlight text to capture the indexing (ie Trigger and Index values) I would get the box drawn around the value but would not highlight it to capture.  Now when trying to run the wizard, its al,ost like it tries to open in a different windiow and keeps blinking??  This same 1 page PDF works fine on my old machine.  I've done numerous uninstalls of both Adobe and CMOD software.  Always reboot after each removal and install and always installing Adobe first.  I know when Plugin isnt in adobe you get an error.   Does anyone have any ideas what to check as to why I'm getting these results?  TY!!

Hey guy -

Don't know if it helps but I have this old tip that I got from Alessandro Perucchi:

Hello Ed,

you need to have at least Acrobat Standard version installed.
You cannot use it with Acrobat Reader.

And then if you have it installed, then you must be sure that it is installed before CMOD Client.
If it installed after, you'll need to copy the arspdf32.api from   <Home Directory for CMOD Client>\PDF
and copy it in the plug-ins directory of your installation of Acrobat Standard Version.

Cheers,
Alessandro

Hi Ed!..Both machines are running the same exact version of Adobe Acrobat Pro ( we learned in the past Adobe Reader won't work).  And both machine have the same exact verson of CMOD (10.5.0.2).

The Adobe was installed first and in checking, the arspdf32.api was not present in the plugin folder in Adobe.  Which was expected.

Then installed the CMOD software.  The arspdf32 was then found in the Adobe Plugin folder.

I get NO error when launching the PDF wizard in CMOD.  I know you can an error if the arspdf32 isn't found in Adobe.

It's hard to explain but after choosing the PDF, aIt flashes showing the data of the PDF then goes away and all I see is a  white box with a red line around it but no data.   IF I try and move the box it flashes again showing the data but again data goes away.  Oddest thing.

As I indicated, everything work perfect on my old PC.  No issues at all using same PDF.

Got me baffled.  Expeciall

Ok, after last comment I did the following

1. Removed CMOD from laptop by doing an Uninstall.  I also deleted the Ondemand folder under Program Files (x86).  I then went into REGEDIT and removed
Ondemand Folder from HKEY_CURRENT_USER.  I couldnt remove it from HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

2.) After removing CMOD software I rebooted machine.

3.) I then did an UNINSTALL of Adobe Acrobat PRO.  As with CMOD, I deleted Folder in Program Files (x86) and in the Registry under HKEY_LOCAL_USERS.

4.) Rebooted machine.

5.)  Re-installed Adobe Acrobat Pro on PC.

6.) Rebooted machine.

7.) Re-installed CMOD software

8.) Rebooted machine.

9.) Check the pluigin folder in Adobe and arspdf32.api was there.

10.) Configured server in admin client.

12.)  I logged into CMOD Client (Viewer) and viewed a PDF report.  Viewed correctly.  Previously it would open but couldnt page through correctly./

13.) I then launched Wizard selecting PDF options.  I chose the same PDF that works on old machine.

14.) This time it opened correctly. Box had red line around it and data was viewable.  BUT when attempting to draw a box around any data to capture a
Trigger value all it does is draw a dotted box but won't highlight anything.

The REALLY odd thing is, I did another restart on laptop to see of it corrected anything and found I was back to square one again.  Couldn't view a PDF correctly in Viewer AND wizard was doing what it was before.  Not loading data page.  It seems related somehow to the arspdf32.api file.  But again, get NO error box.  I don't know what else to try!!  lol

Well, you could try upgrading to 10.5.0.9?

(A fish in water can't get any wetter.)

Ed, well FINALLY figured out what the issue was.  It was a setting in Adobe.  Under Preferences/Security(Enhanced) the Enable Protected Mode at startup box has to be UNCHECKED.  For some reason on new laptop it was.  Once that was done had to delete the existing arspdf32 file in the Adobe Plugin Folder  under Program Files (x86) .  Then copy the arspdf32 file in the OnDemand folder in Program Files (x86) and paste it into the Adobe Plugin Folder

After doing all that Report Wizard worked PERFECT for PDF!  Can't recall if this had to be done one old Laptop when software was installed on it!

Appreciate the responses Ed.  I've made up a document detailing the steps above for future reference.  Of course I have this post to reference too!!!  :-)

I mentioned this to the brain trust around here who pointed me to the CMOD Newsletter 4Q2022.

https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/node/6850805

QuoteProblems displaying PDF files with the OnDemand
Administrator client after upgrading Adobe
Acrobat Continuous Release 2022
When selecting a PDF file to begin indexing with the OnDemand
Administrator client or viewing with the OnDemand Client, the following
symptoms might occur:
In the OnDemand Administrator, the Graphical Indexer window opens
the PDF document for indexing, but the PDF page renders outside or on
top of the Graphical Indexer window. Further, users are unable to select
any text for defining indexes, triggers, or fields.
In the OnDemand Client, the PDF document opens for viewing, but the
PDF page renders outside or on top of the OnDemand Client.
The OnDemand Administrator or OnDemand Client immediately
closes.
These issues are caused by new security enhancements implemented by
Adobe.
To prevent these issues from occurring, review the Preference settings in
Adobe Acrobat. Select the 'Edit/Preferences...' menu item, then click
'Security (Enhanced)'. Under 'Sandbox Protections' uncheck 'Enable
Protected Mode at startup'.
Unchecking 'Enable Protected Mode at startup' will display a message box
asking if you are sure you want to continue. Select Yes. Then close Adobe
Acrobat and try to open a PDF file in the Graphical Indexer of the
OnDemand Administrator or in the OnDemand Client.

And now I know.

Newsletter includes a screenshot as well.

Ed,

Seek and you shall find!   I would have never found that info myself like you did!  Someone at our helpdesk tracked down that setting in Adobe.  That's the only way it got fixed here!!!  Just one of those off things you dont come across too often!  I appreciate all your responses!!

Take care
