Indexing Standard

Hi,

We are Onboarding Many APPL GROUP, Using the Different FEEDs setup, Each feed contains Huge no of records/data (In Rows and Volume).
To Make the Search (HitlIst) faster we set few more fields as INDEX fields, But still the search is not Faster as expected.
-Is there any Guidlines to Setup the FIELDS as INDEX fields,
- how to improve the SEARCH faster ?
- Also like to Know is there any Limitation in the number of Fields to Define as the INDEX Filed.
