Index file created by arsload indexer only not readable

I'm working on a new setup of some old reports that were converted in the past from ebcdic to ascii.

I can open them in de administrator client and select the fields and everything seems to work, but when I run an arsload with the -i (indexer only) option I can't read the index file.

If I run arsload to store the document it is archived and retrievable without any problems.

Any ideas on why I can't read the index file?
